A touchscreen table that challenges visitors to test their ability of distinguishing fake news from real news
We live in an age of information abundance.
But how can we know what information to trust? Many do not question the reliability of their sources.
Concept
The Void affords interaction that is meant to raise awareness of this issue. Having picked a topic of interest, visitors are presented with related news articles that can be real or fictional. Their task is to distinguish between the two groups.
By not providing the correct answers, the installation plays with the visitors’ expectations – just like in the real world, good judgement is the only tool available. The realization that it is very hard to spot the fakes should encourage critical thought on our habits of media consumption.
Fakes are generated automatically by recomposing pieces of existing articles.
Hence, truth and fake are diametrically opposed while structurally akin.
